Montpellier is also famous for its beautiful and pristine seaside. Far from the crowds, in a world so different from concrete resorts, Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone gives people a 3,000 hectare nature reserve in which to relish silence. From its forest of green oaks - some 150 to 300 years old - spread over 8 hectares, to a 4 hectare adventure park with a giant Zip wire and via Ferrata, to vineyards, marshes, and beaches... outdoor activities are the way to go. In the heart of these enchanting surroundings, you will find the massive Maguelone Cathedral, one of the most important sacred places in Languedoc-Roussillon. You can access this protected site and nearby beach via a little tourist train, on foot or by bike for even more adventure.
Several other public beaches are also located near Montpellier, namely
Palavas les Flots, Petit Travers (Carnon ), Grand Travers (La Grande Motte), Espiguette (Le Grau du Roi) and Aresquiers (Frontignan).
