This exceptional tour takes visitors out to discover the history of the city with a visit of three museums located in three historical sites. Remarkable and unique: Montpellier Museum of History (Xth to XVIth centuries, located in the Notre Dame des Tables crypt), Museum of Ancient Montpellier and the historical Miséricorde apothecary, whose chapel and pharmacy represent the oldest Montpellier apothecary still standing.
Rates: 3€ for a single ticket valid for all three museums.
New Museum of Decorative Arts - Reopening of the Hôtel Sabatier d'Espeyran private mansion
The restoration and redesign of this historical site is destined to become the future decorative arts department of the Fabre Museum. The former private mansion will house original antique furnishings to recreate authentic XVIIIth and XIXth-century decors. Public opening is planned for the first quarter of 2010.
Space dedicated to artistic expression
In a few days, Montpellier will open new artist studios right in the city centre, welcoming both workshops and boutiques for artisan crafts. A total of five studios will be available for craft artists and open to visitors.
This is part of an ambitious effort to bring craft artists back to the downtown area, and to preserve the city's long artistic tradition. In addition to opening these workshops to the public, classes and temporary exhibitions will also be organised.
Agora, International City of Dance
Just a few steps from La Panacée, Montpellier Agglomération has begun to renovate and expand its Agora de la Danse facilities, the International City of Dance. This exceptional site for cultural exchange is entirely dedicated to the creation and presentation of dance performances, bringing together audiences, artists and creators. Agora hosts the world-class summer Dance Festival, as well as the complete Montpellier Danse season, as well as the Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon National Choreographic Centre (CCNM).
The current construction work is focused on creating two new dance studios of 205 m² and 300 m² in the cloister's south wing, plus six accommodations for artists in-residence, a large multi-purpose area designed to welcome the public, and access for people with reduced mobility. The Rotonde area is being completely rebuilt with an open-air amphitheatre, public space, dressing rooms for performers and technical facilities. Work is scheduled to be completed by May 2010.
La Panacée Contemporary Art Centre - City of the Artists
In Fall 2010, Montpellier will open the doors to its new City of the Artists, dedicated to contemporary art. La Panacée will offer modular exhibition space as well as studios for artists, and work residences for inviting French and European artists in order to build a stimulating creative environment.
The Arena concert hall and exhibition centerSince October 2008, visitors at the Montpellier Exhibition Park have been able to watch a major new facility rise from the ground, a project due to be completed by summer 2010: the creation of a new auditorium that serves a dual role both for functions related to events organised by the Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon Exhibition Park itself, and as a high-capacity conference centre, concert hall and multi-sport palace:
- 14,000 spectators (for show configurations)
- 9,000 sports fans (for sporting events)
- 13,500 m² usable surface area for exhibitions
